PUBLIC SERVICE PENSIONERS GET 4.2% COLA

The Public Services Pension Fund (PSPF) announced on Monday 11th August 2025 that they will  adjust the monthly annuities to the close to 11 000* retired public services workers by 4.2% in respect to a Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for the year 2025. The announcement further stated that the adjustment would be effected on August 2025 and will be backdated to April 2025. 

The spouses (around 7356*) and dependents (around 7267*) of deceased pensioners are also expected to benefit from the COLA adjustment.

The retired public service workers who are beneficiaries of the PSPF include retired central administration officers, retired teachers, retired nurses as well as other public health services workers, retired prisons wardens, retired police officers, retired army officers and retired educators from basic education institutions as well as public colleges.  

Cautious excitement

The news was met with a sense of cautious excitement by the affected pensioners. The Eswatini daily newspaper ,the Times of Eswatini reported on their Tuesday 12 August 2025 edition that the President of the Swaziland Public Service Pensioners Association (SPSPA) Elliot Mkhatjwa had stated that even though they as the pensioners accept the COLA however they also want to have their monthly annuities comprehensively reviewed by the PSPF. He said, "What I can say is that although we are happy with the adjustment ,we now want a review that will increase our pensions". 

The PSPF is currently the largest retirement fund in Eswatini with as asset base of E34.4 billion* and is reported to have distributed around E1.6 billion* to retired public service workers ,to spouses and beneficiaries of deceased pensioners in the year 2024.

70 individuals appointed into Emabandla at a high cost to the fiscus

  Eswatini Attorney General Sifiso Khumalo (online picture) King Mswati III the Head of State of Eswatini on Saturday issued a directive through the Attorney General Sifiso Khumalo appointing around 70 individuals into several national committees, also known as Emabandla. The appointments come more than a month after the term of office of the previous Emabandla’s term of office came to an end and their term in office was extended indefinitely by the King through a gazette issued by the Attorney General. 1.    THE HISTRORY OF SWAZI LABOUR LAW – BY NATHI GUMEDE It is difficult to proceed with issues of individual and collective Swazi Labour law without outlining the key events in the history of the Swazi Labour Movement.
