PUBLIC SERVICE MINISTRY CONFIRM THE DELIVERY OF HIGHLY ANTICIPATED SALARY REVIEW AND JOBS GRADING REPORT BY THE CONSULTANTS

On Saturday 16th August 2025 the Ministry of Public Service issued a media statement announcing that the salary review (and jobs grading) consultants,Umelusi Consultancy and Emergency Growth Consultancy, had delivered the draft report to the employer (the government) on Friday 15th August 2025. This was in line with the collective agreement signed between the Government Negotiations Team (GNT) and the Public Service Unions (PSU's) on the 9th August 2025 on the timelines of the delivery and implementation of the report.

The statement, signed by the Ministry's Principal Secretary Mthunzi Shabangu, further provided that the next step in the process would be for the ministry to arrange a date where the report will be delivered by the consultant to the parties where it is expected that the consultant will present the main findings as well as recommendations. The parties to the negotiations are thereafter expected to trash out an implementation plan to the salary review and jobs grading.

The findings will affect workers in the civil service that includes teachers, nurses, accountants, central administration workers of different levels and members of the armed forces.

The news was met with cautious excitement amongst the workers od re civil service on social media many of whom while praising the government and the consultants for their professionalism in the process expressed apprehension about the percentages recommended by the consultants.

70 individuals appointed into Emabandla at a high cost to the fiscus

Eswatini Attorney General Sifiso Khumalo (online picture) King Mswati III the Head of State of Eswatini on Saturday issued a directive through the Attorney General Sifiso Khumalo appointing around 70 individuals into several national committees, also known as Emabandla. The appointments come more than a month after the term of office of the previous Emabandla’s term of office came to an end and their term in office was extended indefinitely by the King through a gazette issued by the Attorney General. The several Emabandla announced are as follows, Board of Trustees (7), the Minerals Management Board (7) , Ludzidzini Council (20), Civil Service Commission (5) , Liqoqo Council (20), the Land Management Board (5) and the Teaching Service Commission (5). THE HISTRORY OF SWAZI LABOUR LAW – BY NATHI GUMEDE It is difficult to proceed with issues of individual and collective Swazi Labour law without outlining the key events in the history of the Swazi Labour Movement.
