TUCOSWA GOES FOR THIRD QUADRENNIAL NATIONAL CONGRESS

THE TRADE UNION CONGRESS OF SWAZILAND (TUCOSWA) GOING TO ITS THIRD QUADRENNIAL CONGRESS



The Trade Union Congress of Swaziland (TUCOSWA) ,having being launched in March 2012 ,is going for its third national congress from the 10th to 12th November 2021 at eSibayeni Lodge, Matsapha.  

The theme of the congress is "Promoting Decent Work in the midst of COVID-19 and Political Unrest"

The congress shall comprise of around 146 delegates from TUCOSWA's affiliate trade unions. Current the Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) is the largest TUCOSWA affiliate and shall have over 30% of delegates in the congress and this will give them considerable power in the congress in the decisions and resolutions of the congress. The National Public Service and Allied Service Workers Union (NAPSAWU) is the second biggest affiliate and as a result they shall have delegates slightly less than SNAT. 

There are other trade union from the private sector such as Swaziland Agriculture and Plantations and Allied Workers Union (SAPAWU) ,the Swaziland  Union Financial Institutions And Allied Workers (SUFIAW),the Swaziland Amalgamated Trade Union (SATU) and Amalgamated Trade Unions of Swaziland (ATUSWA).

The total number of affiliates lies around 16. There could be affiliates that may not have the rights to vote because of outstanding dues to TUCOSWA as provided by the TUCOSWA constitution.

Congress Business

The congress shall be opened by an address by the current president comrade Quinton Dlamini, It shall also receive a report by the acting Secretary General comrade Mduduzi Gina and the financial report by current Treasurer comrade Patrick Mamba.

The congress shall also amend the constitution, make resolutions based on the Secretary Generals report and elect the new leaders of the federation.

Guests

The congress may be addressed local fraternal organisations such as political parties and civil  society organisations. Further, subject to confirmation the congress shall be addressed by the International Trade Union Confederation -Africa (ITUC-Africa) and the Southern African Trade Union Coordination Council (SATUCC).

1.    THE HISTRORY OF SWAZI LABOUR LAW – BY NATHI GUMEDE It is difficult to proceed with issues of individual and collective Swazi Labour law without outlining the key events in the history of the Swazi Labour Movement.
