CMAC WILL HOST THEIR ANNUAL LABOUR LAW SEMINAR IN MARCH 2024



The Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration Commission (CMAC) will host their flagship gathering ,the Annual Labour Law Seminar on 21st - 22 March 2024. The venue where the seminar will be hosted will be the  Happy Valley Hotel in Ezulwini.

The CMAC is a public organisation created to fast track the resolution of labour disputes through conciliation and mediation. According to the CMAC website the seminar the theme of the seminar will be called "Enhancing harmony in the workplace".

In a report in the Times of Eswatini on 20th February 2024 it was reported that the topics of the seminar will be as follows:

1. The impact of minimum terms and conditions of employment  towards the decent work agenda

2. The impact of the Public Enterprises Unit (PEU) Act on public sector collective bargaining: Does the IRA guarantee bargaining for public enterprises?

3. Intricacies of freedom of association and the right to organise right/strike.

4.Social Security of workers in employers liquidation or sequestration - the need for legislative amendments.  

5. The existing dichotomy is dismissal disputes and recourse. Case Law Analysis Gabriel Sithole vs Eswatini Sugar Association and two others.

6. Mental Health at work.

7. Best practice: Paternity leave ,lessons from South Africa.

8. Artificial Intelligence and the practice of law, its impact on law, regulations and HR policies.

9. The existing dichotomy in dismissal disputes and its recourse

According to information in the CMAC Website and from advertisements in popular media the seminar will also feature two panel discussions one of whom will be based on the value of trade unions in the workplace in times of strategic change and facilitating employee strategic alignment and the second based on whether employers are bound by disciplinary hearings chairpersons' recommendations.

Admission to the seminar will cost each participant E4,200.00.

NAPSAWU HAS SUSPENDED THREE NATIONAL OFFICE BEARERS

Written by Staff Reporter The National Public Service and Allied Workers Union (NAPSAWU) National General Council (NGC) ,on Thursday 15 th February 2024, suspended three of its National Office Bearers (NOBs), two of whom are believed to be principal officers. Principal Officers number up to three in trade unions and are the President, General Secretary and the Treasurer.
