NAPSAWU HOLDS ITS ELECTIVE CONGRESS

The National Public Service and Allied Workers Union (NAPSAWU) - the workers trade union organising workers in the central administration (government), some public enterprises and town councils - is going for its elective congress from Wednesday 19th July 2023 – to Friday 21st July 2023. The theme of the congress is “Strengthen and Advance Working Class Consciousness in the Workplace for the Betterment of Workers”.

The congress will be attended by over 200 delegates from eleven NAPSAWU branches as well as the national committees such as women and youth structures.

Local and International Guests

Expected local guests will be SNUS, fellow Public Service Associations (SNAT, SNAGAP, and SWADNU) as well as the National Workers Union in Swaziland Higher Institutions (NAWUSHI). NAWUSHI is a union that is a fellow member of the Public Service International (PSI) with NAPSAWU where they are also affiliates together with the Swaziland Democratic Nurses Union (SWADNU).

Expected international guests will include two public service trade unions from Botswana, the Botswana Land Board & Local Authorities & Health Workers Union (BLLAHWU) and the Botswana Public Employees Union (BOPEU). From Lesotho the Lesotho Police Staff Association (LEPOSA) is expected to be in attendance. From South Africa the National Health and Workers Union (NEHAWU) is expected to attend.

It is possible that there might also be a representative from the global trade union federation the PSI.

This congress is NAPSAWU's first to be held after four years. Before 2019 NAPSAWU used to hold congresses every three years.

The congress agenda will include the President's address where President Oscar Nkambule will officially open the congress. The Secretary General Thulani Hlatshwayo will deliver the organisational report. The National Treasurer Mpendulo Ginindza is also expected to deliver the Financial Report. of the four years the outgoing leadership has been in office.

The congress will also elect a new national leadership that will hold reign for the next years.

The NAPSAWU Deputy Secretary General Thabile Zwane conformed that the congress will sit as scheduled and that all the preparations were in place to have a successful congress.

NAPSAWU HAS SUSPENDED THREE NATIONAL OFFICE BEARERS

Written by Staff Reporter The National Public Service and Allied Workers Union (NAPSAWU) National General Council (NGC) ,on Thursday 15 th February 2024, suspended three of its National Office Bearers (NOBs), two of whom are believed to be principal officers. Principal Officers number up to three in trade unions and are the President, General Secretary and the Treasurer. The suspension of two of them may therefore demonstrate the seriousness of the matter just barely six months since the current NOBS took office in August 2023.
