BAWINILE NDLOVU ELECTED NAPSAWU PRESIDENT IN THE CONGRESS


New President of NAPSAWU Comrade Bawinile Ndlovu


The elective congress of NAPSAWU, that kicked off on Wednesday 19th July 2023 and concluded its business on Friday 21st July 2023, elected comrade Bawinile Ndlovu as the president of the workers union. Comrade Bawinile was elected into office together with a relatively new leadership collective into positions as well as  some returning faces as well. 
Comrade Bawinile defeated former President Oscar Nkambule while former National Organising Secretary Dumisani Nkuna was elected Deputy President. The General Secretary Thulani Hlatshwayo was re-elected into his position ,defeating former 1st Deputy General Secretary Thabile Zwane. New Tresurer Thuli Dlamini defeated the former incumbent Mpendulo Ginindza. New Treasurer Thuli previously served as the secretary of the women's structure.

The congress elected the National Executive Committee (NEC) as well as national structures, the national youth structure as well as national women structure. The congress was attended by over 220 delegates.

National Treasurer - Thuli Dlamini

 

The elected youth committee leadership were as follows:

Chairperson - Colani Ginindza

Secretary - Nondumiso Fakudze

Treasurer - Bagcinile Sihlongonyane

 

The elected women committee leadership stood as follows:

Chairperson - Zodwa Nkonde

Secretary - Lydia Henwood

Treasurer - Nyakomuhle Dlamini

 

The term of office of the elected leadership shall run for four years, until 2027.


History significance of Presidency

Making her maiden address to congress President Bawinile professed her appreciation to delegates for conducting themselves well during the congress and performing their duties in the congress including conducting elections of the leadership. She further thanked the delegates making history by electing into office NAPSAWU’s first female president in her.

Challenges in the Public Service

The NAPSAWU congress had received reports from the President and the General Secretary both of whom had highlighted the serious challenges besieging workers in the public service including the fact the promised salary review by government for public service workers is now mired in delays and what is believed to be sabotage by the government. There are also fears of increased outsourcing and privatisation of service and public resources by the government.

The Congress was received a keynote address from the workers federation, the Trade Union Congress of Swaziland (TUCOSWA) which was delivered by the President Bheki Mamba. Besides TUCOSWA the congress was witnessed by local trade union and Mass Democratic Movement (MDM) organisations including the National Workers Union in Swaziland Higher Institutions (NAWUSHI), Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT), the Swaziland National Association of Government Accountants Personnel (SNAGAP) and the Multi Stakeholders Forum (MSF).

There were also international guests in the form of public service trade unions from Botswana and Lesotho.
